I Miss Yoga in LA

I’ve only taken one class thus far, I could give the full disertation on it, but I’m not sure it’s even worth it to rant on about how off and yet expected it was. Needless to say, i realize the incredible talent I was surrounded by in LA and the amazing yogi’s I have had the priviledge to study with and to call my friends.
perhaps it’s just this one instructor. Perhaps it was an off day, she was well versed, but simply didn’t take her students or class anywhere, I might as well have practiced with a deck of cards. Shape, name. go.

BASI- totally hip and on the money, i think

SO, it’s been done, BASI (Rael Isacowitz) has created comprehensive online content for the Pilates community. I love the concept, the idea and all that goes with online videos, a pick of the month, easy access to the repetoire, reminders and contunuing education. I love it. Obviously, you know i live online and love the research and convienice of it. HOWEVER in the day and age of FREE information, I feel like the pilates/fitness community is faaaaaaar behind the curve. YES, we finally have quality content, but really, shouldn there at least be a portion that is free? Pay by downloads and be able to preview by clip (i.e. itunes, exercisetv etc etc etc…..) Hell, we can find good free ones on utube. What is so special about this set (aside from the BASI brand)? I’d love to tell you, but Im not sure I’m willing to spend the money on it. Yet.

We Joined The Y!

Official chice for our fitness and family- the YMCA After looking at our choices they truly have the largest group fintess schedule, cardio deck and pool. Not to mention the kids programs and teh childcare that Milo loves and allows me consistant workouts. Milo still calls it Kids Club (as he has grown up in Equinox’s lol). It’s a good pairing all the way around.

I had my first workout at the Y yesterday. Solid. The lifting floor has everything you ‘need’. NO frills no bells and whistles…but it all works. My workouts are a bit basic right now to get me back on to the floor, perhaps I’ll post them. I’m sore in all the right places and didn’t overdue it anywhere. good stuff. I’m going to lift M-W-F for a while (3 months?) stretching and core with it and running and/or Pilates or Yoga on T-Th.

That’s the news for now!

New City , New Workouts

Any time you move to a new city it takes some adjustment time to figure out where to buy groceries, where to get gas, where the post office is, where and when to workout. I am no acception. Since we’ve moved to Austin, I’m trying to get my own fitness bearings. It’s an amazing town to workout in. There are as many choices as you would wnat; indoor/outdoor, YMCA, upscale, neighborhood gym. I’m going through all the ‘tours’ figuring out where I would fit in this town. Better yet, where my family will fit, do they have childcare? What are the hours? What does the group fitness schedule look like? How does it compare to what I’m used to? What are the high traffic times? soooo many questions.

In the meantime, as I reserach, I’m running. A lot. Outside. So I busted out the heart rate monitor and am paying FAR more attention to my playlists. Legs are happy, heart is happy, brain is happy. No better release, then RUNNING out in the universe, untethered in the zone.

So far, so good. Austin has a new fitness story to write for me.

Hello AGAIN!

SO sorry for it to have been so long since my last post. Many excellent changes have happened since the last time I posted. I am now based in Austin, TX! AND my workouts are live on exercisetv

My day to day is MUCH different than before in LA, I get to focus on my family first, and pilates second;) I cannot wait to bring you info on the fitness/pilates spectrum of Austin. The thoughts are to do a retreat here, come back to LA for classes, workshops and privates every 3 months and perhaps work on a secret project or two for you all;)

stay connected, stay tuned, I’m here! just in a different state;)
